Local Area

Places we would recommend visiting in Kalkan:

Cafe Vita – on the corner close to the apartment. Warm and welcoming with a good cafe menu and free internet access. There is a barbeque night with live music on Wednesdays.

There are a number of new restaurants and bars on the way into town, mostly very good, and Brothers has been particularly recommended, as well as many in town. Please do let us know if you find anywhere special!

There are plenty of ATMs in Kalkan, and local, regulated money changers give a fair rate if you have cash to change.  However, some of the ATMs can charge a lot of money for changing currencies and they can vary a lot, so check the exchange rate and charges before pressing ‘continue’.

There is a market held in Kalkan every Thursday.

Places to visit near Kalkan:

There are good bus services to many places around Kalkan and the bus station is at the top of the hill near the main road into town.

Kalkan beach – a picturesque, white pebbled beach next to the harbour.

Patara beach – 17km white sand and safe swimming, Lycian amphitheatre and Greek and Roman ruins, but it has now become quite pricy through the resort part where the ruins are, but if you ask locally there is a free part at the other end of the beach but it is not so well maintained and does not have the same amenities.

Kalamar beach – diving, kids watergames and watersports.

Kaputas beach – small beach in a very beautiful setting, but lots of steps to get down to it, 6 kilometres out of town towards Kas and can get very crowded in season.

Tlos ruins – amazing acropolis and many rock cut tombs. “The home of Pegasus”. There is also a fabulous fish restaurant nearby.

Saklikent Gorge – awe inspiring experience, but be aware you will get wet, so take a change of clothes.

Kekova – a lovely day out on the sea with a stop off at Ucagiz and a view of the sunken city.

The lazy day boat trips are a must.

Kas – colourful local town, bigger than Kalkan, and an amazing coastal drive.

Mountain Drive – an inland drive in the mountains behind Kalkan towards Elmali is spectacular.
